Last week, we highlighted the parks and recreational facilities in the Bristow, Haymarket, Gainesville, Va. area. But, what if you wanted to just relax and enjoy the outdoors? Today we are going to spotlight where to find outdoor movies and musical talents in our Bristow, Haymarket and Gainesville, Va.
If you are up for a little bit of a hike to go to our nation’s capitol, go to the Carter Barron Amphitheatre in Rock Creek Park at 16th Street and Colorado Ave NW D.C. There are picnic areas available in the park surrounding the amphitheatre, so you can get there a little early and have some dinner. The gates open at 7:00 P.M. to the first 3,700 people for FREE! The show begins shortly after at 7:30 P.M. The current schedule for this month is:
July 17: Classic Soul Night featuring Mousey Thompson and the James Brown Experience, Skip Mahoney and the Casuals, and William DeVaughn
July 24: Reggae Night featuring Monsoon and STORM Reggae Band, Puma Ptah, Ras Biruk, and Ras Band

Maybe you are in the mood for an evening consumed of imagery in which you are able to get lost in rhymes and melodies. Well, the Poetry and Jazz Festival is for you! On July 18 from 12:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., the Clearbrook Center of the Arts will be gracing us with their incredible talents. This incredible afternoon of harmonies will be located at the Lakeside Courtyard in Tacketts Mill Center at 2235 Tackett’s Mill Drive in Lake Ridge, VA.,

The Harris Pavilion located at 9201 Center Street in Historic Downtown Manassas has been a staple for the locals since it opened. It turns into ice skating in the winter but we are thankfully still able to have an amazing time there during our other three seasons. Let’s start with our 2015 Summer Sounds Concerts. All concerts begin at 6:30 P.M. They have a limited amount of chairs available so feel free to bring your own lawn chairs and a picnic spread in case you get hungry. Here’s the current schedule for the rest of the summer:
-August 8: David Kline Band (Global music- contemporary sounds)
-August 22: La Unica (Latin Irish Fusion and Rhythms)
-September 5: Prince William Community Band (Traditional American Patriotic)

Bonus Weekly Events at Harris Pavilion are as follows:
-Take Out Tuesdays: Listen and/or see the local talent from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Discount coupons are on the website!
-Wednesday Lunch Concerts: Come on over from 11:30-1:30 for lunch and a concert under the Pavilion. You can bring your own or get lunch to go from one of the delicious Old Town restaurants. Make sure you get back in your seats quickly to enjoy the great musical talents.
-Farmers Market: Every Thursday from 7:30 A.M.-1:00 P.M., local farmers gather in the Pavilion bringing fresh goodies from their farms. They are back on Saturdays from 7:30 A.M.-1:00 P.M. as well in the parking lot behind the Pavilion.
-Friday Family Movie: Bring your blankets, pillows, popcorn, and stay in your jammies. A projection screen will show some great movies such as “An American Tail”, “How to Train Your Dragon 2”, “Monsters University”, and many more family-fun titles. All movies begin at 8:30 P.M.
-Sunday Ice Cream Socials: from 3:00 P.M.-4:30 P.M. enjoy live music with friends and family along with some ice cream to cool you down during these warm summer months.

Starting back up in September is the Crescent Cinemas: Fridays Under the Stars! This fun local hangout spot is located behind the Harris Teeter in Gainesville, VA. They will be showing family-oriented movies like “Paddington”, “Cinderella”, and “Into the Woods”. For additional information, check out Crescent Cinemas or call at 703 237-9777.
At the Manassas NVCC Campus, the Mary Louise Jackson Amphitheatre is showing new and old flicks. The amphitheatre is located at 6901 Sudley Road in Manassas. Admission is $3 for the public and free for anyone with a NOVA ID; parking is free. Here is the movie schedule for the remainder of the year:
